So for those of you waiting for the new WinMo to come out, check out Engadgets article about new details that are starting to show up.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/06/rumored-windows-phone-7-details-surface-ahead-of-mwc-launch-zun/?s=t5

So there you have it. It seems they are attempting to emulate (once again) the Apple trends of the day. How many of you plan on using this platform?

When I read that article on engadget today I died a little inside. If these details hold true then microsoft is really going to fail in the mobile OS fight. Conformity isnt the answer at this point and thats the reason android is looking promising.

As sad as it may be, it is indeed how to achieve success. Want an example? The iPad... Clearly a total distinct lack of innovation and creativity yet it will be wildly successful. So you can bet if this OS is fast, stable, and utilizable like the iPhone, it may actually entertain a few consumer whores...

I held out some hope that WinMo 7 would be an evolutionary reinventing, much like Windows 7 on the desktop. After reading this, I am somewhat disappointed. This seems like the wrong direction altogether. I have no problems revamping the controls and UI, and updating the codebase would be a good idea as well to support newer features without hacks or having to use custom ROMs, but the Zune/Xbox shit needs to stay out of there, WHY THE FUCK ARE THEY KILLING MULTITASKING?!?!?!?!?!, and the 3GS is the wrong target. I guess we'll have to wait until MWC to get hard details though.

MWC?

And the multi-tasking issue will be a constant blight of the modern aged smartphone. They clearly do such a thing to preserve battery life in an effort to create a better performing device. Is it worth it? If I had my choice, no it is not. That is reason 304 as to why Android (2.1) is superior, not only can I multitask, but it looks GREAT and is FUNCTIONAL whilst doing so not to mention a beautiful task switcher built into the home button. WOW I love this phone...

MWC stands for Mobile World Congress, an international symposium for mobile electronics. Microsoft is supposed to officially unveil Windows Mobile 7 at this year's MWC sometime this month (Feb 15th I think?).

And my desire for winmo7 just died. Actually at 8:20 or so this morning, but I didn't feel like posting at that point. No desire for this shit. Android from here on out, I guess.

I am interested to actually play around with the interface before I make judgements. But it looks like they essentially MS'ed a Apple. Lol!

I'm going to reserve judgment on the UI until I can actually put my hands on one. There is no way to tell how the interface is going to look and feel from screenshots.

Well the video of the interface gives you a rough idea of how it will work. However the test build looks pretty weak at the moment. Just a lot of crashes and slowness. So maybe a final build with hands on can change my mind.

I am curious, DJ George and you other programmers, what do you think of the XMA/Silverlight lining to Windows Phone 7?

Are any of you planning on developing for it?

WP7S:
No copy/paste
1 source for apps
revocable license for apps
no custom UIs
edit: no multitasking

Its literally apple OS 1.0.

Microsoft is now Apple (but years behind, with no userbase AND a lousy reputation) while Android is going to take all the users who like to customize. This would be hilarious if it wasn't so damn sad. HTC Supersonic can't come soon enough.

unfortunately i have not looked to far into mobile development. mostly because i do not own a phone that supports anything. we'll see what happens in the near to distant future.
